Obviously, because the interpretation section of Higher English is based on an “unseen” passage,
you can’t learn up the content in advance or memorise quotations.
But many students don’t realise that questions on the content of the passage are only one aspect
of interpretation work. At least as much emphasis is placed by the examiners on the style of
language used. Interpretation questions are not only asking you about what the writer is saying;
they are asking you about how he or she says it.
You can revise for these questions by training yourself to recognise the language features which
help to make up a good written style.
